In 2017, Dhélé Agbetou, an impassioned dancer, performer, and choreographer deeply rooted in both urban and classical dance, initiated the Urban Stylez Festival as a part of the Wake Up O.W.L Movement. Originating in Bielefeld, the festival rapidly expanded its reach to Berlin and, notably, ventured into Nahariya, Israel in 2022. Drawing participants from diverse corners of the globe, each festival serves as a nexus, fostering connections among international dance communities.

What started with a modest 20 participants per festival has blossomed into a grand event with 200 participants per city. Yet, the Urban Stylez Festival transcends the traditional notion of a mere celebration. It is, at its core, a "Safe Space" meticulously crafted by a familial embrace for the wider community. Here, instruction goes beyond imparting the nuances of Hip-Hop, Chicago Footwork, House, Contemporary, and an array of other styles. It delves into the rich history and origins of the culture. In recent years, the program has seamlessly integrated lectures and open discussions, adding depth to the experience.

The workshops, particularly the intensive courses running 3 days in a row hone in on specific dance styles. To seamlessly weave together the diverse fabric of dance, jam sessions, dance battles, and performance nights constitute integral aspects of the Urban Stylez Festival. Despite the initial appearance of competitiveness in dance battles, recent years have proven that they serve to unite dancers, fostering a sense of community and mutual inspiration through extraordinary moves and flows.

Months of fervent preparation promise to transform this project into a sublime and love-infused event, offering attendees a space to authentically express themselves and explore their identities within the tapestry of the community.

Bielefeld, the birthplace of founder Dhélé Agbetou, holds a special place in the festival's narrative. The venue, DansArt, is a thriving dance school owned by Dhélé's parents, who have long been pivotal and supportive contributors to the festival.

The last festival stood out with 40 workshops, 9 intensive courses, and an eclectic mix of approximately 25 teachers from across the globe. Lectures, panel discussions, battles, and jam sessions were once again woven into the fabric of the event, creating connections and providing a profound insight into the intricate culture of the urban dance world.

A noteworthy addition this year is the inclusion of beginner courses, opening the doors to individuals beyond the traditional urban dance community and nurturing growth within the broader collective. The beginner workshops will be open to all ages, since should be accesible for everyone!
